Tony Smith

Tony Smith

This is one of many faces of the current recession.

Tony Smith lost his job when Plantation Patterns (made wrought iron furniture) went bankrupt. (Thanks to Wells Fargo). He found another job at an aluminum plant in Georgia but he did not have money to fix his car. He hitchhiked there the day before the job and spent the night at the front of the business. That job lasted three days.

So while you are enjoying your Labor Day cookout and festivities remember the Tony Smiths.

"As soon as your born they make you feel small,
By giving you no time instead of it all,
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be."
